How We Do It

Bulletin Board

Car owners post any car question to the Bulletin Board.
Postings are private. We use first names only and mask email addresses.
Postings are emailed, as notifications, to all qualified participating mechanics within 20 miles of the posted zip code.
Notifications include a private email link allowing mechanics to respond to the owner’s questions, privately.
Mechanics cannot initiate a communication; they can only reply to a notification.
Car owners may ignore or reply to mechanic replies. No obligation.
If replies are few, car owners may expand their search by re-posting with a different zip code. Limit: 5 active postings at one time.
We reserve the right to exclude participation.

Founder's Message

Hello, I'm Stephanie. I designed Competing Mechanics for folks who, like me, know little to nothing about auto repairs. I always dread the car repair experience. It intimidates me. Too often I accept the first estimate just to escape the situation. I know I should shop and compare the competition but auto repair shopping has never favored the shopper. My intent in designing this site was to provide car owners an easy, pressure-free system to evaluate, compare and shop auto repairs from the comfort of their home. I wanted a platform where car owners could gather the information needed to make an informed decision without the awkwardness and intimidation that standing in a repair shop presents.
